PNNL Question on BFN Area Municipal Potable Water Sources

1. If available, please provide the peak demand per day of water for the City of Athens Water Services. Also, please provide, permitted capacity, average daily demand and peak demand per day for the Limestone County Water Authority. From what source do these two systems draw their water?

See page E-198 Guidance Point 3: City of Athens Water Services peak demand day was 10.7 MG, ~2years ago. They have a Safe Yield from the Elk River of 56 MGD.

Per Brian Smith of the Limestone County Water Authority, they have several wells and take some water directly from the Elk River, for a total permitted capacity of about 8 MGD. The do get some water infrequently from the City of Athens Water Services. Their daily average is 6.25 MGD and their peak day so far has been 6.75 MGD. Their G-1 well located SW of Athens has a permitted capacity of 720,000 gallons/day. Their three wells located SE of Athens are: Horton Springs (648,000 GD); Lawson (2,880,000 GD); and Newby (576,000 GD). Their Elk River treatment plant is located in the NW corner of Limestone County and has a capacity of 3.25 MGD.
