Re: Docket 05-EI-136 On behalf of Stora Enso's North American Division, I want to formally indicate our company's support of the sale of the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant. Our division in North America is the leading producer of coated and supercalendered papers for the printing and publishing industries. We have seven manufacturing facilities in Wisconsin that currently employ approximately 4,000 people.
Specialists in our company have been a part of deliberations by a variety of groups and individuals who, through their experience and understanding of the issues, have considered this matter carefully. As a result of this extensive dialogue, we believe that the facts support this asset sale.
To be sure there are questions that remain. Re-licensure in 2013 and future regulatory authority over the plant may still be an "open" issue. While these are significant issues, like the Wisconsin Paper Council, we do not believe that these risks would cause us to hesitate endorsing the sale. Given the public testimony, the analysis given this issue by the companies involved and the importance to the energy infrastructure of the state, it is clear that the benefits of the sale outweigh the risks.
There are many challenges that we all face when examining the future of energy consumption in Wisconsin. We believe this asset sale is the right thing to do at the right time. If you have any questions regarding this matter feel free to contact me or any of the people copied on this letter.
Best regards, Lars Bengtsson President C: Mr. Larry L. Weyers, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation i.Charles A. Schrock, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation V(.S.
