Dear Dr. Diaz:
My sister and her family lived three miles from the Davis-Besse nuclear plant at Toledo, Ohio, until two years ago when the facility was found to have severe safety problems. They moved.
As a member of the Union of Concerned Scientists I am asking you not to WEAKEN safety regulations and protocols at our nation's nuclear reactors, but rather to STRENGTHEN them.
I don't believe limiting public participation in the licensing process improves the safety of nuclear plants or any other aspects of our lives.
Please require that nuclear plants applying for re-licensing be subject to contemporary safety standards, and establish an aging-management program.
