Subject:
Request for Extension of Commitment to a Notice of Violation from Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station NRC Inspection Report No. 50-346/03-010 Ladies and Gentlemen:
On June 30, 2004 the FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) requested a verbal extension of an NRC Inspection Report 2003-010 Notice of Violation commitment to provide documentation establishing flow requirements (e.g., to demonstrate full open position) for check valves SW17, SW18, and SW19 due by June 30, 2004. This commitment was originally documented in Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station (DBNPS) letter Serial 1-1357, dated April 5, 2004. The extension will permit completion of the formal documentation. This extension request is necessary due to an apparent work coordination issue between work groups and was entered into our Corrective Action program for further evaluation. Verbal approval was granted to extend the due date to October 15, 2004, by Mr. Passehl, NRC Project Engineer and the DBNPS Corrective Action Program Focus Area NRC lead inspector.
The NRC identified Violation was of very low safety significance. The revised commitment date identified in this submittal is listed in Attachment 1.
If there are any questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. Gregory A. Dunn, Manager -
Regulatory Affairs at 419-321-8450.
