ATTACHMENT 1 )

The pressurizer at Ginna Station is an 800 ft3 series 84 pressure vessel. The top and bottom heads are plain carbon steel castings (SA 216 Type WCC), and the shell is SA 302 Grade B carbon steel. The interior surfaces of the heads and shell are clad with austenitic stainless steel deposited by weld overlay processes. The steam space piping is connected to the spray, safety and relief nozzles in the top head by means of Type 316 stainless steel safe ends which are welded to the nozzles with stainless steel weld metal. These welded joints are full-penetration welds. All weld metal (including buttering layers) used in these joints is austenitic stainless steel. An austenitic stainless steel thermal sleeve is welded to the safe end on the spray nozzle by a fillet weld. The weld metal used to make this joint is austenitic stainless steel.

The heater penetration joints in the bottom head are entirely of austenitic stainless steel construction. The heater well sleeves are Type 316 stainless steel. The sleeves are rolled into holes in the head and then welded to the cladding on the interior of the head with a partial penetration weld. The immersion heaters are welded to each sleeve using austenitic stainless steel weld metal.
