/- SURRY POWER STATION REVISION 4 PAGE 3 OF17 1.0 PURPOSE 1.1 To provide instructions for performing a flow test of the headers and nozzles associated with the Emergency Switchgear Room Halon System in accordance with Technical Requirements Manual 3.3 and 3.7.

1.2 To provide instructions for verifying the Emergency Switchgear Room Halon System actuates automatically through a simulated signal from the manual pushbuttons to the automatic actuation solenoids in accordance with Technical Requirements Manual 3.3 and 3.7.

1.3 To provide instructions for performing an operability test of the Emergency Switchgear Room Halon manual initiating system in accordance with Technical Requirements Manual 3.3 and 3.7.

1.4 This procedure shall be performed at least once every 18 months in accordance with the frequency specified in Technical Requirements Manual 3.3 and 3.7.

3.2 The units may be in any mode.

3.3 Notify the Operations Shift Supervisor that the Temporary Modification (TM) will perform the following. (Ref. 2.3.7)

  • Remove solenoid valve from all pilot valves.

4

  • Remove the discharge piping from all suppression cylinders.

4OL 3.4 Advise the Operations Shift Supervisor that a fire watch 1AW the Technical Requirements Manual will be established in the affected area and that the Operations Shift Supervisor will be notified when the system is inoperable.

3.5 Advise Operations Shift Supervisor that system activation alarms will occur during testing.

3.6 Advise Operations Shift Supervisor when the system is operational and ask to release the

'72 fire watch.

3.7 Verify status of backup Fire Protection system. IE backup system is not available, THEN stop performance of this procedure and record reason in Comments, 722 Subsection 7.3.

3.8 Notify the Operations Shift Supervisor before beginning test that performance of this procedure may cause annunciation of Low Air Flow Alarm.

4.0 PRECAUTIONS AND LIMITATIONS 4.1 The Operations Shift Supervisor is responsible for evaluating the Emergency Switchgear Room Halon System for continued operability in accordance with TRM Section 3.7 and as required by VPAP-2401.

4.2 If the Halon System is found to be inoperable, the Operations Shift Supervisor must be notified immediately.

4.3 Performance of this procedure could result in the accidental release of Halon 1301 gas.

4.4 The initials identification block in Subsection 7.3 must be completed before the procedure is closed out.

5.0 SPECIAL TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT 5.1 A cylinder of air, nitrogen or C02 should be used for flow testing the system 5.2 Smoke detector test gas

1.2 To provide instructions for verifying the Emergency Switchgear Room Halon System actuates automatically through a simulated signal from the manual pushbuttons to the automatic actuation solenoids in accordance with Technical Specification 4.18.E.l.c (1).

1.3 To provide instructions for performing an operability test of the Emergency Switchgear Room Halon manual initiating system in accordance with Technical Specification 4.18.E.l.c (3).

1.4 This procedure shall be performed at least once every 18 months in accordance with the frequency specified in Technical Specification 4.18.E.1.c.

3.6 (P1) Advise Operations Shift Supervisor when the system is operational and ask to release the fire watch.

3.7 Verify status of backup Fire Protection system. IE backup system is not available, THENi stop performance of this procedure and record reason in Comments, Subsection 7.3.

3.8 Notify the Operations Shift Supervisor before beginning test that performance of this procedure may cause annunciation of Low Air Flow Alarm.

3.9 Evaluate Halon System operability requirements IAW Technical Specification Ss Section 3.21 for LCO applicability and VPAP-2401 for compensatory measures.

4.2 If the Halon System is found to be inoperable, the Operations Shift Supervisor must be notified immediately.

4.3 Performance of this procedure could result in the accidental release of Halon 1301 gas.

4.4 The initials identification block in Subsection 7.3 must be completed before the procedure is closed out.

1.2 To provide instructions for verifying the Emergency Switchgear Room Halon System actuates automatically through a simulated signal from the manual pushbuttons to the automatic actuation solenoids in accordance with Technical Specification 4.18.E.l.c (1)..

1.3 To provide instructions for performing an operability test of the Emergency Switchgear Room Halon manual initiating system in accordance with Technical Specification 4.18.E.1.c (3).

1.4 This procedure shall be performed at least once every 18 months in accordance with the frequency specified in Technical Specification 4.18.E.l.c.

4.2 If the Halon System is found to be inoperable, the Operations Shift Supervisor must be notified immediately.

4.3 Performance of this procedure could result in the accidental release of Halon 1301 gas.

4.4 The initials identification block in Subsection7.3 must be completed before the procedure is closed out.
