SUBJECT:
REQUALIFICATION PROGRAM INSPECTION - HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION
Dear Mr. Anderson:
In a telephone conversation on April 29, 2004, Mr. John G. Caruso, Senior Examiner/Inspector, and Mr. James Reid, Operations Training Manager, made arrangements for the NRC to inspect the licensed operator requalification program at the Hope Creek facility. The inspection is planned for the week of August 30, 2004, which coincides with your regularly scheduled requalification examination cycle. The staff at your facility should prepare and conduct the requalification examinations in accordance with your NRC-approved requalification program.
In accordance with 10 CFR 55.59(c), the NRC may request facility licensees to submit their comprehensive requalification written examinations or annual operating tests as necessary to support the NRCs inspection program needs. In order for the NRC to adequately prepare for this inspection, please furnish: 1) an index or summary of condition reports written in the past two years in which licensed operator errors were determined to be the root or contributing cause; 2) an index or summary of condition reports written in the past two years on simulator performance problems; 3) an index or summary of simulator performance test results in the past two years; 4) the examination schedule, sample plan, operating tests scheduled for the week of the inspection; 5) a copy of the requalification training program description; and 6) all procedures that govern preparation of exams, evaluation, remedial training, reactivation, maintenance of license, and simulator management and configuration to the NRC by August 16, 2004 (Note: A sample of the biennial written exams will be forwarded and reviewed when available). Mr. Reid has been advised of this request and provided with the name and address of the NRC lead inspector assigned to this inspection.
