Dear Mr. Rathbun:
Enclosed is a letter I received from the Board of Selectmen for the Town of Hinsdale regarding the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant. The Town believes the NRC should conduct an independent safety assessment of the plant as part of reviewing Vermont Yankee's request to increase its energy output. As you may know, Hinsdale is the closest New Hampshire community to the plant and, because of that fact, is particularly sensitive to insuring it meets the highest safety standards.
I would appreciate the NRC giving the Town's request every consideration.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and I look forward to your response.
Sincerely, JG/rnl Enclosure PtINMOa ON EMC=L PAPUER

Dear Senator Gregg:
The Town of Hinsdale is in support of the N.H. Senate's resolution requesting that Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant have an independent safety assessment conducted prior to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's approval to allow the power plant to increase its power by twenty percent.
The Town of Hlinsdale is located directly across the Connecticut River from the power plant. We have great concern for the safety of our residents, especially for the 800 students that attend school within view of the plant.
We would appreciate youqr assistance in making our request known to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Respectfully Submitted, Town of Hinsdale By Its Selectmen h4u s
