Dear Chief McCollun,
Thank you and your staff for your support during our March 31, 2004, meeting at the Vernon Elementary School. Your presence provided for a safe environment for us to interact with the public on Entergys application to uprate the power at the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant.
As an independent regulatory agency, our mission is similar to yours: to protect the health and safety of the public. We will seek facts and opinions openly from Entergy and interested members of the public and we consider the many and possibly conflicting public interests involved. We will base final decisions on objective, unbiased assessments of all information and explicitly state reasons for our decisions. Meeting with the local community is one of the ways we accomplish this. Again, thank you for support in allowing this to happen.
