Secretary February 16, 2004 Eric Weiss, Chief Emergency Preparedness and Health Physics Section U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear Mr. Weiss:

This is in response to the January 23 letter from Paul Lohaus of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). His letter advised states with commercial nuclear power plants, that the NRC would provide on request, a supply of 65 mg potassium iodide (KI) tablets to supplement current supplies of KI for the general public.

We would like to request the NRC to provide two 65 mg K1 tablets for each person in the 10-mile emergency planning zone of Florida's three nuclear power plant sites. The following is the requested information about Florida's sites. The population numbers include the resident population and an estimate of the transient population during peak times:

Florida Power and Light - Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant (10-mile population: 160,000)

Florida Power and Light - St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant (10-mile population: 210,000)

Florida Power Corporation - Crystal River Nuclear Power Plant (10-mile population: 22,000)

The contact person authorized to receive the KI and the "ship to' address is as follows:

Harlan Keaton, Environmental Administrator Bureau of Radiation Control 2044 All Children's Way Orlando, FL 32818 If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me at (850) 245-4266.

Sincerely, William A. Passetti. Chief Bureau of Radiation Control NRC State Liaison Officer 4052 Bald Cypress Way. Bin C21
