SUMMARY

OF MEETING BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION (NRC) STAFF AND NUCLEAR MANAGEMENT COMPANY, LLC (NMC) REPRESENTATIVES TO DISCUSS THE POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION On January 20, 2004, the NRC staff met with members of Nuclear Management Company, LLC (NMC) in a public meeting to discuss NMC's plan for submitting a license renewal application (LRA) for the Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2. The list of attendees is provided in, and the meeting agenda is provided in Enclosure 2.

NMC representatives discussed the features of the Point Beach Nuclear Plant, LRA format, and their approach in applying "NUREG-1 801, Generic Aging Lessons Learned (GALL) Report," for identification of plant components consistent with GALL programs. A significant topic discussed at the meeting was pressurized thermal shock (PTS). The NMC representatives stated that they have an exemption request under staff review for the use of a revised PTS calculation methodology based on the B&W proposed "Master Curve." The NMC representatives stated that they would rely on the approval of this methodology for the PTS calculations of the Point Beach reactor vessels for license renewal.
