LOGUSCI RESOLUTION NO. 2844 REGARDING THE OPERATION OF INDIAN POINT NUCLEAR FACILITY WHEREAS, the City of Stamford is in close proximity to the Indian Point nuclear facility located in Buchanan, New York; WHEREAS, a variety of government agencies and officials, including without limitation the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Department of Homeland Security and the Governors of Connecticut, New York and New Jersey, have identified nuclear power plants as potential targets for terrorist activities; WHEREAS,!in addition to terrorist activities, accidental events at nuclear facilities present a danger to neighboring communities; WHEREAS, no suitable evacuation plan exists for the 20 million people living within the 50 mile radius surrounding Indian Point in the event of a nuclear discharge, regardless of the cause"for such event; andvIn WHEREAS, the Board of Representatives has investigated in good faith and to the best of its ability the risks posed by the Indian Point facility to the citizens of Stamford.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE 26TH BOARD OF REPRESENTATIVES THAT: the City of Stamford calls for the suspension of operations at the Indian Point nuclear facility's Unit Two and Unit Three reactors until the security of its spent fuel rod storage is improved by moving spent fuel from pool storage to more secure dry cask storage; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT: 'the City of Stamford calls for the restoration of the No Fly Zone over the Indian Point nuclear facility that was temporarily imposed after September 11, 2001, for both private and commercial air traffic.
