Updated NRC Statement re: Indian Point & FEMA please see attached, incorporating OPA's comments.
Christopher Jackson - ndian point fema statement.wpd Page 1 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has received the results of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) most recent review of offsite emergency preparedness plans and procedures for the Indian Point nuclear power facility. FEMA has determined that offsite emergency preparedness near Indian Point continues to provide reasonable assurance of protection for public health and safety. The NRC underscores that emergency planning has always been a dynamic process. While the offsite emergency response plans have been found to be adequate, the NRC will continue to work closely with FEMA, the State and counties in their development of enhancements, as appropriate. As any enhancements are identified and incorporated, they will be tested in conjunction with continuing evaluations of emergency response facilities and functions.
