VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 & 2 NOTIFICATION SERVICE WATER SYSTEM SPECIAL REPORTS This notification is consistent with the expectations expressed by the Atomic Safety and Licensing Appeal Board in its decision ALAB-578 (February 11, 1980).
Special reporting requirements are being deleted from the North Anna Technical Requirements Manual (TRM). Included in the change is the removal of submitting a special report for settlement of Class 1 structures associated with the Service Water System (SW). The TRM changes do not affect the periodic test procedures used for measuring SW system differential settlement nor the limiting condition of operation specified in the TRM.
Failure to comply with TRM requirements will be reported to the NRC in accordance with 10 CFR 50.72 Immediate Notification Requirements for Operating Nuclear Power Reactors and/or 10 CFR 50.73 Licensee Event Report System. This is consistent with guidance provided in NRC Office Instruction No. LIC-100, Control of Licensing Bases for Operating Nuclear Reactors.
Notification of any changes to the internal procedures used to report settlement monitoring results will continued to be made in accordance with the ALAB-578 Decision. Should you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact us.
