PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT, UNIT 1 - WITHDRAWAL OF REVIEW OF THE APPLICATION OF LEAK-BEFORE-BREAK TECHNOLOGY TO REPLACEMENT STEAM GENERATOR DESIGN FOR (TAC NO. MB7509)
Dear Mr. Solymossy:
By letter dated November 18, 2003, the Nuclear Management Company, LLC (NMC), withdrew the request for review of the application of leak-before-break technology for the Unit 1 replacement steam generator design, dated January 29, 2003. This proposal requested that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) confirm that the replacement steam generators could be designed on the basis of the reduced loads resulting from the application of leak-before-break criteria to postulated breaks in the primary reactor coolant loop piping.
Subsequent to the submittal, the NRC informed NMC that the NRC would not perform this review as submitted; however, the NRC would review the application of the leak-before-break criteria if NMC submitted it in a license amendment request pursuant to 10 CFR 50.90. Based on this information, NMC chose to withdraw the request for NRC review.
Accordingly, TAC No. MB7509 is closed.
