U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT ON THE WEST VALLEY DEMONSTRATION PROJECT SAFETY ANALYSIS REPORT FOR THE REMOTE-HANDLED WASTE FACILITY (WVNS-SAR-023, REV. 1, DRAFT D)
Dear Mr. Jackson:
This letter is in response to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) letter, dated July 23, 2003, requesting U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) review of WVNS-SAR-023, Rev. 1, Draft D, Safety Analysis Report for the Remote-Handled Waste Facility. The DOE letter stated that the purpose of this Safety Analysis Report is to document the extent to which the Remote-Handled Waste Facility (RHWF) at the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP) can be safely operated.
The NRC staff has reviewed the subject report and documented its results in the enclosed Safety Evaluation Report (SER). The SER concludes that the operation of the RHWF at the WVDP will have no negative impact on the publics health and safety.
