Dear Mr. Kuo:
I understand that the Southern Nuclear Operating Company, a subsidiary of the Southern Company, has filed an application to renew the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant's license for an additional 20 years for Farley Units 1 and 2.
Plant Farley provides jobs for 900 citizens of the Wiregrass area; and $7 million in tax revenue. The employees are strong servants of our community and our schools. They participate in the "Spirit of Service Day", which is held annually to help better our community through special projects, as well as many other community activities. Our community's quality of life has been improved due to Plant Farley being a big supporter of the Wiregrass Museum of Art. Plant Farley has been a tremendous asset toour Emergency Management Agency and have always been very cooperative in assisting with any grants for Houston County. The Joseph M. Farley Plant is a tremendous positive impact on the Wiregrass Area as well as the State of Alabama.
Enclosed please find Resolution #27-03, which was adopted unanimously by the Houston County Commission during its regular session on October 13, 2003, in support of extending the operating licenses for Plant Farley Units 1 and 2 for an additional 20 years.

Alabana 36305 HOUSTON COUNTY COMMISSION RESOLUTION#27-03 WHEREAS, the citizens of Houston County recognize the positive impact of the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant and its employees on the Wiregrass Area and the State of Alabama; and WHEREAS, Plant Farley has a history of sound maintenance and safe operation, safely generating more than 200 billion kilowatt hours of electricity since 1977 and providing electricity for I in 5 Alabama Power customers; and WHEREAS, Plant Farley provides jobs for some 900 citizens of the Wiregrass; and WHEREAS, these employees are strong servants of our community and our schools; and are faithful stewards of the environment; and WHEREAS, Plant Farley provides extensive support for the quality of life and the infrastructure needs in the Wiregrass as the County's largest tax payer.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners of Houston County supports extending the operating licenses for Plant Farley Units I and 2 for an additional 20 years.
