dated May 30, 2001 In References 1 and 2, Byron and Braidwood Stations submitted a report to the NRC that provided a summary of the methodologies, results and conclusions of their AO
September 18, 2003 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 2 respective Individual Plant Examination of External Events (IPEEE). The seismic analysis section of these reports identified some plant improvements that were complete or scheduled to be completed. These plant improvements included a recommendation to evaluate and secure the main control room ceiling diffusers to the T-bar support system, as appropriate, in order to prevent the diffusers from falling during a seismic event and becoming a personnel hazard. The NRC, in References 3 and 4, reiterated this recommendation in the associated IPEEE safety evaluation for Byron Station and Braidwood Station.
Byron and Braidwood engineering have subsequently completed this evaluation and have demonstrated through calculations the main control room ceiling diffusers are capable of withstanding an IPEEE Review Level Earthquake and will not fall.
Consequently, the tying of the main control room ceiling diffusers to the T-bar support system is considered not necessary.
