PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE STATUS OF NRC SUPPLEMENTAL INSPECTION PER INSPECTION PROCEDURE 95003 AT POINT BEACH

Dear Mr. Cayia:

The refers to the public meeting held on August 27, 2003, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, to discuss the status of the ongoing NRC 95003 supplemental inspection at the Point Beach Nuclear Plant.

At this meeting, the NRC stated that the Corrective Action Team (CAT) portion of the 95003 inspection has been completed and the results will be incorporated into the upcoming Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance Team (EOMT) portion of the 95003 inspection, which is scheduled to begin onsite activities on September 8. The onsite activities of the Emergency Preparedness Team (EPT) portion of the 95003 have also been completed and the results of those activities are being evaluated by the inspectors. The results of all three team portions of the 95003 inspection will be discussed at a public meeting tentatively scheduled for mid-October and will be documented in one inspection report.

Mr. Mano Nazar, you, and other members of the Point Beach senior management staff discussed the Point Beach Excellence Plan, the progress in the corrective action and emergency planning key focus areas, and the preparations of the station for the EOMT.

The handouts provided at the meeting by the NRC and by your staff and a listing of principal NRC and Nuclear Management Company attendees are attached as Enclosures 1, 2, and 3, respectively, to this letter.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRCs Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter and it enclosures will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document room or from the Publicly Available Records System (PARS) component of NRCs document system (ADAMS).
