GL03-024 DRAFT REGULATORY GUIDE DG-1079, CRITERIA FOR POWER SYSTEMS FOR NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS Virginia Electric and Power Company (Dominion) and Dominion Nuclear Connecticut, Inc. (DNC) appreciate the opportunity to comment on Draft Regulatory Guide DG-1079 presented in the Federal Register, Volume 68, Number 97, Pages 27598-27599 on May 20, 2003.
One apparent error was noticed in the Draft Regulatory Guide. The third sentence in paragraph one under Section B, Discussion, states the phrase "therefore, the safety-related power system is an auxiliary supported feature". This should be 'therefore, the safety-related power system is an auxiliary supporting feature" to maintain consistency with the guidance of IEEE 603. The sentences that follow this are both confusing and redundant.
It appears that the author is trying to say that the safety-related power system is more complex than other auxiliary supporting features, and that it can provide power to both safety-related and nonsafety-related loads. If so, this should be simply stated.
