IRWIN PRONIN 444 East 82nd Street - Apartment 20B New York, New York 10028 July 10, 2003 Honorable Nils J. Diaz Chairman U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555
Dear Chairman Diaz:
I urge you to declare the Indian Point emergency plan inadequate to protect public health and safety and to order the closure of Indian Point.
I urge you to protect the public health and safety by NOT approving the unworkable and unfixable emergency evacuation plan for Indian Point.
I urge the immediate and permanent closure and orderly decommissioning of the Indian Point nuclear power plant.
4 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission should withdraw Entergy's license to operate the Indian Point plant.
Please ask the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to decertify the radiological emergency plan for Indian Point because the plan fails to adequately protect public health and safety.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission should order Indian Point's owner, the Entergy Corporation, to secure, in a more robust fashion, the vulnerable "spent" fuel storage pools.
