As a result of our meeting with the NRC today, this letter confirms that the following statements from the referenced letter are commitments made by STP Nuclear Operating Company:
STPNOC will take the following action to address the long-term management of potential BMI degradation:
Perform volumetric and enhanced visual examinations of the Unit 1 penetrations at the next in-service inspection of the Unit I reactor pressure vessel.
Perform ultrasonic examinations of the reactor pressure vessel base metal around the repaired penetrations at future selected Unit I refueling outages to confirm there are no indications of pressure vessel wastage from RCS water in the gap area of the repaired penetrations. The details of these examinations will be described in ASME Code relief requests for the repairs.

NOC-AE-03001567 Page 2 of 3 Examine Unit 2 penetrations with a volumetric NDE method at the next Unit 2 refueling outage where the core barrel is planned to be removed (currently 2RE II scheduled for 2005).
STPNOC will not commence heat-up of STP Unit 1 to Mode 4 until it receives written confifthation from the NRC that all necessary NRC actions are complete.
