Comments on 12-10-02 First Meeting Hello Christine, I finished reading the transcript for the first meeting of 12-10-02 and have these comments.
Again, some especially informative comments/statements by NRC people. You pointed out that after everything was done in the first (blue) column, the only result was that items were then in the next column. My favorite, though, was Mr. Dean clearly pointing out that the main problem was not with the equipment.

I couldn't believe that they, at that time, (10 months), still had not finished installing the new sump screen. (That is, until a county commissioner happened to mention that this plant is still not de-regulated).
How long should it take to place 4 beams?

I was particularly disappointed to not see a challange to the statement on the bottom of page 32 and the top of page 33 about fixing longstanding gasket problems on reactor coolant pumps. Assuming they have four and only fix two, wouldn't that leave two leaking when they start up again? And didn't I see in an earlier transcript that only zero primary coolant leakage is acceptable at power? So, is the conclusion that they intend to violate Technical Specifications by operating with primary coolant leakage? I hope somebody from the NRC informally dropped by and said: "This is no longer acceptable."
There is one more thought I have here. If they admit to leakage at the pump and don't clean the area around it, if it leaks during the 7 day pressurization, can't they say: "Oh, we know where it leaks. It leaks from the pump gasket." (Didn't this work on the CRDM gaskets on the upper head?)

What do you think the reaction of Ohio citizens will be when they realize who is eventually going to pay for this outage?
Thank you, Tom Gurdziel CC:
