SUMMARY

OF TELECONFERENCE WITH THE UNITED STATES FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE IN SUPPORT OF THE STAFFS REVIEW OF THE FORT CALHOUN STATION, UNIT 1 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NO.

MB3402)

On Tuesday, April 8, 2003, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a teleconference with representatives of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). The following people participated in the teleconference (Attachment 1).

The purpose of the call was to discuss the NRC's draft response to the FWS's January 13, 2003, request for additional information the thermal discharge from the Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1 (FCS) and the FWS request for larval monitoring studies for the pallid sturgeon. The FWS's request for additional information was in response to the NRC's biological opinion (December 9, 2002) that the operation of the Fort Calhoun Station, Unit 1, may affect but is unlikely to adversely effect the pallid sturgeon. Mr. Liedeck from the FWS, requested clarification of the status (preliminary or final) of the CORMIX study cited in our response to the thermal discharge questions. Mr. Liedeck recommended that the staff verify it is using the latest data in regards to occurrences of pallid sturgeons. Mr. Liedeck suggested the NRC contact Mr. Bollig, of the Gavins Point Hatchery and Mr. Mestl, of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for the latest information.
