Re: Draft SOW for Davis Besse Crack As far as burst testing, I strongly feel that we should try to replicate the cladding microstructure as you have stated in the SOW.

The complex microstructure is very important. Not only microstructure, but composition changes due to dilution and the inherent discontinuities resulting from the welding process are all very important.

Exactly replicating the welding process using 6-wire SAW would be ideal. However, perhaps we might have to resort to GMAW cladding it. This would be a better representation than using plate, and probably quicker/easier to fabricate than 6-wire SAW.

I am talking to the senior Welding Engineer Dave Dawes at B&W tomorrow. Once I track down the serial number off the Besse head, we can verify what process was used and exactly how it was done. Also, I will find out if they have any cladding that we could use and the possibility of creating a mock-up using the original equipment and parameters.

Have a good night!

Attached is draft SOW we put together today to try to address the cracking found in the cladding of Davis Besse.
