SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD ON APRIL 1, 2003, REGARDING RECENT STATION PERFORMANCE ISSUES AND ALTERNATE SOURCE TERM (AST)
SUBMITTAL PROGRESS On April 1, 2003, representatives of Energy Northwest met with the NRC staff to discuss recent station performance issues and AST submittal progress. The discussion covered responses to recent Davis-Besse lessons learned, the accuracy and completeness of submittals to the NRC, preliminary findings by the licensees evaluation team regarding the AST submittal, and future submittals to the NRC.
Energy Northwest gave an overview of how they were addressing the Davis-Besse issues, to include the development of a review team that identifies, reviews, screens and evaluates abnormal conditions. Energy Northwest also explained their integration of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations guidance into existing audit programs. The discussion continued with the AST submittal root cause evaluation. The staff emphasized that it was important to show results from the lessons-learned and to provide a quality product. Finally, Energy Northwest discussed station successes.
Energy Northwest thanked the staff for their recommendations and the opportunity to discuss the AST resubmittal. At the conclusion of the meeting, the staff expressed their appreciation to Energy Northwest. An attendance list is provided in the attachment. The slides used during the meeting are available in ADAMS under accession number ML030910242.
