Emergency Notification System Warning Sirens Update

Reference:

1) AmerGen Letter to NRC, T hree Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1) Emergency Notification System Warning Sirens Follow Up Response (TAC NO. MB6495)", Dated January 23, 2003
2) NRC Letter to AmerGen, *Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit I (TMI-1) Emergency Notification System Warning Sirens (TAC NO. MB6495),*

Dated October 21, 2002 This letter is to provide an update to reference I describing our actions to address the TMI-1 Emergency Notification System Warning Siren concern. AmerGen had scheduled to fully sound the sirens and locally verify adequate sound coverage to confirm siren performance.

AmerGen had made all necessary communication arrangements to sound the sirens in the first quarter of 2003.

Due to the current global situation, AmerGen has reevaluated the performance of this sounding and decided not to perform the sounding at this time. Our reevaluation included discussions with the State and County officials, who agree with our decision. This decision is being communicated to the residents of the local counties.

The performance of this planned siren sounding will be scheduled as soon as practical taking into consideration global affairs.

Ifyou have any questions or require further information, please contact us.

Very truly yours, Michael P. Gallagher Director, Licensing & Regulatory Affairs AmerGen Energy Company, LLC
