A matter of vital importance The Honorable Congressional Representative, Christopher Shays, addressed a letter to your attention on January 21, 2003 stating:

"In light of the significant problems identified by the Witt Report, I request that plant operations be temporarily shut-down until the issues raised by the report are fully resolved on Indian Point Energy Center." I anticipate having a hearing on nuclear safety and the sufficiency of evacuation plans with a primary focus on Indian Point Energy Center."

The Witt report did not mention areas other than the local site of the Indian Point Plant, which would be subjected to danger in the event of terrorist attack or malfunction of that Plant, in its consideration regarding evacuation of residents.

Fairfield County CT., and possibly further into CT., residents could be endangered by what could happen at that Plant. As an Example: Stamford, Connecticut is located about 25 miles Downwind from the Plant.

Should there not be consideration also for the people living adjacent in New Jersey or New York City, who might be affected too?

We are talking about miles and miles and miles of residences with people and their families. Where would they all be evacuated to??

As I am writing this:

Honorable Chairman:

On Channel 7, 6:00 p.m. news, Jan. 30, 2003, there were security personnel from the Nuclear plant, who expressed their opinion that the plant had serious security lapses, and they didn't feel they would be able to defend the plant in the event of terrorists. The news cast stated there are 17 million people living within 50 miles of the Plant.

Mr. Brodsky, a state assemblyman from Westchester, recently had called upon federal legislators to pressure federal regulators to close the Indian Plant. and there was a meeting recently of some people at the New Canaan Town Hall, who felt that should be the solution.

As you are very aware, there is not time for long deliberations as war talk hovers in the background. This is a matter of absolute vital importance, and very scary for millions of people, who must confront the problem.

Thank you very much for your attention.
