DRAFT RESPONSES TO OPEN AND CONFIRMATORY ITEMS TO THE SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT FOR THE PEACH BOTTOM ATOMIC POWER STATION LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION On September 13, 2002, the NRC staff (hereafter referred to as the staff) issued a safety evaluation report (SER) with open and confirmatory items related to the license renewal application for the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, Units 2 and 3 (ADAMS Accession No. ML022590468). The open and confirmatory items are summarized in Sections 1.4 and 1.5 of the SER.

From the period beginning on September 30, 2002, to November 14, 2002, Exelon (the applicant) provided draft responses to the NRC by facsimile to the open and confirmatory items to ensure it had a sufficient understanding of the information needed and provided a sufficient level of detail to resolve an item. The responses are included in Enclosure 1. In some cases, when additional clarification was needed, the staff held conference calls with the applicant to either provide feedback or request additional information on responses and those are documented in conference call summaries as appropriate.

In a letter from M.P. Gallagher to the NRC dated November 26, 2002, the applicant provided these responses formally. The additional information contained in the November 26 response, beyond that which is included in Enclosure 1, represents details of the additional clarification or information requested by the staff during the conference calls.
