Background

"* Dominion Nuclear Connecticut (DNC) has initiated the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) Project for Millstone Power Station (MPS) site.

"* A Site Selection Study has been completed.

"* MPS will use the Transnuclear, Inc. (TN)

NUHOMS Dry Cask Storage System using the 10CFR72 General License process.

"* The current plant Protected Area (PA) fence will be expanded to include the ISFS[ Site.

"* The ISFSI Site will have a footprint to accommodate MPS spent fuel through License Renewal.

"* The initial storage pad will be for 20 NUHOMS Horizontal Storage Modules (HSMs).

"* MPS has initiated the design & engineering of the NUHOMS ISFSI facility with TN.

"* Initial campaign is to load MPS Unit 2 spent fuel into 9 Dry Shielded Canisters (DSCs).

"* MPS Units 1 and 3 spent fuel is not part of the initial 9 DSCs.

  • Target Dates for Major Milestones (subject to state and local reviews)

- Complete ISFSI Site Construction, receive HSMs and DSCs in first half of 2004.

- Finish MPS and NRC dry runs and readiness reviews by the end of 3rd qtr. of 2004.

- Start loading 4 DSCs into the HSMs in 4th qtr.
