SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE November 2002 The Indian Point Unit No. 3 Nuclear Power Plant was synchronized to the bus for a total of 571.23 hours2.662037e-4 days
0.00639 hours
3.80291e-5 weeks
8.7515e-6 months
, producing a gross electrical energy generation of 572,993 MWH.
On November 15, at 0957 hours0.0111 days
0.266 hours
0.00158 weeks
3.641385e-4 months
, the unit experienced an automatic reactor shutdown due to failure of the 345 kv Main Output Breaker No. 3, and subsequent trip of remaining Main Output Breakers 1, 5 and 6, located offsite in the Buchanan switchyard. The plant was stabilized in Mode 3 (hot standby). On November 16, the reactor was brought critical (Mode 2) at 1239 hours0.0143 days
0.344 hours
0.00205 weeks
4.714395e-4 months
, in preparation for plant restart. Assessment of 345 kv Main Output Breaker No. 1, which would be relied upon to carry the plant output, determined that maintenance and inspections would take several days and the reactor was manually shutdown at 1819 hours0.0211 days
0.505 hours
0.00301 weeks
6.921295e-4 months
, and the plant re entered Mode 3.
Following successful maintenance and testing of 345 kv Main Output Breaker No. 1, the reactor was brought critical on November 21, at 0034 hours3.935185e-4 days
0.00944 hours
5.621693e-5 weeks
1.2937e-5 months
, and the unit was synchronized to the bus at 1443 hours0.0167 days
0.401 hours
0.00239 weeks
5.490615e-4 months
. The unit achieved full power on November 22, at approximately 1045 hours0.0121 days
0.29 hours
0.00173 weeks
3.976225e-4 months
, and remained on line at full power for the remainder of the reporting period.
