Farley Nuclear Plant and Vogtle Electric Generating Plant Clarification Regarding Request for Additional Information to 60-Day Response to NRC Bulletin 2002-01 "Reactor Pressure Vessel Head Degradation and Reactor Coolant Pressure Boundary Integrity" Ladies and Gentlemen:
The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued a Request for Additional Information (RAI) to the Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) Vogtle Project on November 14, 2002 and to the SNC Farley Project on November 15, 2002 concerning their 60-day responses to NRC Bulletin 2002-01. SNC contacted the NRC staff by telephone and received a clarification that the required response time for each RAI is within 60 days of receipt of the NRC letter issuing the RAI rather than the 30 day response time stated in each RAI.
The RAIs were received by the SNC Vogtle Project on November 19, 2002 and the SNC Farley Project on November 26, 2002. Therefore, SNC commits to respond to these RAls no later than January 17, 2003 and January 24, 2003 respectively.
