SUMMARY
OF TELECONFERENCE BETWEEN THE NRC AND NUCLEAR MANAGEMENT COMPANY TO DISCUSS REACTOR PRESSURE VESSEL MASTER CURVE EVALUATION METHODOLOGIES The NRC staff and representatives of Nuclear Management Company (NMC) held a telephone conference on November 13, 2002, to discuss reactor pressure vessel Master Curve evaluation methodologies. This teleconference provided answers to questions raised by NMC during a September 17, 2002, meeting regarding the Point Beach Nuclear Plant (Point Beach), Units 1 and 2.
NMC inquired on the logistics for utilizing the BAW-2308 endorsed Master Curve methodology or the Kewaunee-approved Master Curve methodology to evaluate the Point Beach reactor pressure vessels. The NRC communicated that either methodology can be submitted for a potential 10 CFR Part 50 license amendment review or a potential 10 CFR Part 54 application.
With either methodology, the submission would need to request various exemptions similar to the Kewaunee application. The schedule for the potential submission was discussed. NMC noted that the Master Curve evaluation results included a potential core power increase.
A list of teleconference participants is provided in the enclosure. This summary has been shared with and reviewed by NMC.
