SUBJECT:

RESCHEDULING OF EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS SUPPLEMENTAL INSPECTION -- POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2

Dear Mr. Cayia:

On October 3, 2002, we received a telephone call from Ms. Fritzie Flentje of your staff requesting that the NRC consider rescheduling the November 4, 2002 Supplemental Inspection for a White inspection finding in the emergency preparedness cornerstone that was identified during your February 12, 2002 emergency preparedness exercise. Ms. Flentje indicated that additional time was necessary to ensure that your root cause analysis of the performance issues was completed and that your staff was fully able to support our inspection. We have evaluated your staffs request and have rescheduled the inspection to the week of November 18, 2002. This change was communicated to your staff via a telephone conversation between Ms. Flentje of your staff and Mr. Kenneth Riemer and Mr. Steven Orth of mine, on October 4, 2002. If you have any questions concerning this information, please contact Mr. Orth at 630-829-9827 or Mr. Riemer at 630-829-9757.
