SUBJECT:

RENEWAL OF LICENSE NO. R-110 (TAC NO. M94199)

Dear Dr. Kunze:

The purpose of this letter is to determine your intentions for finalizing the license renewal process for your AGN-201 Research Reactor. Almost 7 years have elapsed since you made application to renew your facility operating license, which was due to expire on December 23, 1995. By letter dated March 20, 1997, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requested that the Idaho State University respond to a Request for Additional Information (RAI) regarding the renewal of the license. You have not yet responded.

It is our expectation that the license renewal application and review process be completed by both the NRC and the licensee in a timely manner. I would like to complete this process by the end of August 2003. Within 30 days of the date of this letter please inform us in writing about your plans to respond to our RAI and to support the review schedule.

If you have questions, please call me at 301-415-1188.

Sincerely,

/RA/
