R08 020917 681 September 17, 2002 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Mail Stop OWFN, P1-35 Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 Gentlemen:

In the Matter of ) Docket Nos. 50-259 Tennessee Valley Authority ) 50-260 50-296 BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT (BFN) - UNITS 1, 2, AND 3 - UPDATE TO THE ANNUAL RADIOLOGICAL EFFLUENT REPORT (ARER) - JANUARY THROUGH DECEMBER 2001 This letter provides an updated 2001 ARER including a corrected Enclosure 3, page 12, the original ARER was sent to NRC on April 16, 2001. This updated ARER also covers the period from January through December 2001, and supersedes the previous ARER.

During a follow-up review of the 2001 ARER, it was identified that Np-239 was erroneously listed as a particulate of the gaseous ground release in the Effluent and Waste Disposal Annual Report portion (Enclosure 3 on Page 12). As such, this particulate has now been removed from the report. This erroneous inclusion of Np-239 as a particulate did not have any significant effect on the total curies released from BFN in 2001.

There are no commitments contained in this letter. If you have any questions, please contact me at (256) 729-2636.

Sincerely, original signed by:
