Extension of XR 081 for Angra Unit I EFM-02-0408 Betty Wright U.S. NRC Licensing Officer Dear Ms. Wright Westinghouse's NRC Plant License for Angra Unit I in Brazil, XR 081, is set to expire on September 19, 2002. Since another Agreement for Nuclear Cooperation has been signed between the U.S. and Brazil, the expiration date of this valuable license can now be extended as well. We have been hoping that Brazil would be added to the list of generally authorized countries for nuclear components (10 CFR Part 110.26) but that has not yet occurred. Since Westinghouse needs to export components as they wear out and need to be replaced and for possible warranty issues on the major items which still require a plant license, we wish to extend this plant license XR 081 for 10 more years in the hope that within that period that Brazil would be added to the list of NRC generally authorized countries for nuclear components and render the need for XR 081 to be minimized. As you know Westinghouse has terminated all of its plant licenses except for XR 081 and XR 107, (the KRSKO plant in Slovenia), so once Brazil is added to the list of generally authorized countries we would terminate this XR 081 plant license as well. I will be sending you a check for the NRC fee to extend this XR 081 license for 10 years within a few weeks, but I wanted to make you aware of Westinghouse's intent on this matter.
