September 17, 2002 Mr. P. E. Katz, Vice President Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Inc.
Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant 1650 Calvert Cliffs Parkway Lusby, MD 20657-4702
SUBJECT:
CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 - REPLY TO RESPONSE TO ORDER FOR INTERIM SAFEGUARDS AND SECURITY COMPENSATORY MEASURES (TAC NOS. MB4108 AND MB4109)
Dear Mr. Katz:
On February 25, 2002, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Orders modifying the operating licenses for the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant (Calvert Cliffs), Unit Nos. 1 and 2 to require compliance with the specified interim compensatory measures (ICMs) for safeguards and security.
The NRC staffs letter of May 24, 2002, addressed your earlier response to the Orders and granted, in response to your request, an extension of time until July 1, 2002, for your submission of the required response for ICMs B.2.a(1), B.2.a(2), and B.4.g.
The NRC staff has reviewed your response to ICMs B.2.a(1), B.2.a(2), and B.4.g, as well as further information you submitted on ICMs B.1.b, B.2.e, and B.5.e submitted by your letter of May 30, 2002, and finds that you have satisfied the current reporting requirements of the Order.
Your letter of August 30, 2002, stated that you have achieved full compliance with the requirements in Attachment 3 to the Order. The NRC will determine the effectiveness of your implementation of the ICMs through on-site inspections.
Please contact Donna Skay at (301) 415-1322 if you have any other questions on these issues.
Sincerely,
/RA/
