Dear Mr. Lochbaum:
The NRC staff is in receipt of several letters you have recently sent addressed to individual senior staff. These letters are dated June 12, 2002, July 3 and July 15, 2002. The primary thrust of these letters is to bring to the staffs attention numerous questions raised by the Union of Concerned Scientists. Included in these letters were a number of questions relating to the Davis-Besse reactor pressure vessel head degradation.
It is the staffs position that questions, such as those raised, would be best addressed in the course of the staffs on-going efforts associated with the oversight of Davis-Besse. As such, many if not all of the questions raised will be subsumed within our on-going activities. Thus as NRR and Region III complete activities, our documentation of these will provide a vehicle to address questions such as many of those raised by Union of Concerned Scientists. I trust you will find your concerns addressed within our existing processes.
