Introduction Three Topical Reports/One TS Change require NRC approval to support Sequoyah Unit 1 Steam Generator Replacement (SGR) project.

- TR for Bar Lock Couplers

- TR for SG compartment Modification

- TR for Rigging and Heavy Loads + TS Change for ERCW Operability

Bar-Lock Couplers

  • Met with NRC Staff 8-9-2001, Described:

- Bar-Lock Design

- Test Plan to be used and criteria to be used

  • Topical Report submitted 3-18-2002 with Test Results

- Data demonstrates Bar-Lock Couplers are acceptable mechanical splice for safety related applications at SQN.

- Answered questions from 8-9-2001 meeting

Bar-Lock Couplers (continued)

  • NRC questions/concerns
  • Request NRC Approval for use at SQN in the SGR outage (March 2003)

SG Compartment Modification

  • Met with NRC Staff 10-10-200 1, Described:

- Presented overview of analysis.

- Plan to reuse removed plugs by reconnecting with multiple splice plates.

  • Submitted Topical Report on 3-29-2002 with analysis description

- Review of Analysis Results

SG Compartment Modification (continued)

  • Requested approval for use of Adopted ASME Section III, Div. 2, 1975-Table CC 3230-1 instead of Proposed ASME Section III, Div. 2, 1973-Table CC-3200-1.
  • NRC questions / concerns.

Rigging and Heavy Loads

  • Met with NRC Staff 10-10-2001, Described:

- Load Handling of Major Lifts

- Heavy Load Paths

  • Submitted Topical Report on 4-15-2002 with details of heavy lifts and lift equipment and TVA commitments to support the conclusions.

"*Topical Report supports one-time Technical Specification Change (TSC 02-03) for operability of Unit 2 ERCW system.

"* Technical Specification Change will be submitted in near future.

"* NRC questions / concerns.

Summary 9 SGR project Major Milestone Dates

- New SGs arrive onsite 11-20-2002

- SGR outage begins 3-16-2003

  • TVA Objective -Resolve any NRC questions or concerns prior to SGR
  • Request completion of NRC review 12/31/2002.
