Newly Appointed Interim Director for Radiation Center Gentlemen:
I have appointed Dr. Jack F. Higginbotham as Interim Director of the Oregon State University Radiation Center and TRIGA Reactor effective July 1, 2002.
Dr. Higginbotham replaces the previous Director, Dr. Stephen E. Binney, who retired on June 30, 2002. By this letter, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission is notified of the staff transition in the Director position, as is required by the Technical Specification 6.7.c.3 of License No. R-106, Docket No.20-243.
We are currently in the last phases of the selection process for the hiring of a permanent Director for the Radiation Center and Dr. Higginbotham will serve until that person is named.
Dr. Higginbotham has a long and extensive involvement with the OSU TRIGA reactor facility having served as the Reactor Administrator, Senior Health Physicist and most recently Chairman of the Reactor Operations Committee. He has also held a Senior Reactor Operator's license on TRIGA type reactors for twenty years. His administrative experience is also extensive, having served in the senior University administrative posts of Associate Dean for the OSU Graduate School, Faculty Liaison for my office and Associate Director for the Oregon Space Grant program.
