VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER STATION, FACSIMILE TRANSMISSION, DRAFT REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (RAI) TO BE DISCUSSED IN A CONFERENCE CALL (TAC NO. MB4291)

The attached draft RAI was transmitted by facsimile on June 25, 2002, to Mr. Gautam Sen of Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corporation (VY). This draft RAI was transmitted to facilitate a conference call to clarify the licensees application dated February 26, 2002, regarding system operability. Review of the RAI would allow VY to determine and agree upon a schedule to respond to the RAI. This memorandum and the attachment do not convey a formal request for information or represent an NRC staff position.

DRAFT REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Concerning the Vermont Yankee Amendment Request PCN-254 Current TS 3.10.B.3.a and TS 3.5 appear to convey that when the delayed offsite ac source and one train of safe guards equipment (e.g., Low Pressure Core Cooling Systems) are inoperable, plant operation is permitted for 7 days. Similarly, current TS 3.10.B.3.b, TS 3.5, and TS 3.10.B.1 appear to convey that when the delayed offsite ac source, one diesel generator ac source, and the train of safe guards equipment supported by this one diesel generator ac source are inoperable, plant operation is permitted for 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br />. These current technical specifications appear to be consistent with the intent of the STS.
