Withdrawal of Request for Alternative to 10 CFR 50.55a(f)(4)(ii), Inservice Testing Requirements: Relief Request RG-3 for the Second Ten-Year Interval (TAC No. MB 1726)
Ladies and Gentlemen:
The purpose of this letter is to withdraw a relief request submitted by FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company letter Serial Number 2701, dated April 6, 2001, and supplemented by letter Serial Number 2717, dated June 27, 2001. This letter requested an alternative to the Inservice Testing (IST) requirements prescribed for full-stroke exercising active manual valves at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station (DBNPS) to reflect the requirements, as modified by the NRC staff, of the ASME OM Code-1998 with 1999 Addenda, Section ISTC-3540, "Manual Valves," for the Second Ten-Year Interval Inservice Testing (IST) Program. The Second Ten-Year Interval ended on January 31, 2002; therefore, the request is no longer needed for this interval and this relief request is withdrawn.
On January 11, 2002, the DBNPS submitted the Third Ten-Year Interval IST Program for the DBNPS by letter Serial Number 2751 (NRC TAC No. MB3909). Included in the Third Ten-Year Interval IST Program were several relief requests. One of the relief requests, Relief Request RV-2, requested an alternative to stroke testing of active manual valves to reflect the requirements of the ASME OM Code-1998 with 1999 Addenda, Section ISTC-3540, as modified by the proposed 10 CFR 50.55a published in the August 3, 2001 Federal Register (66FR40640). Approval of this relief request for the Third Ten Year Interval has been requested by letter Serial Number 2751, is presently under review by NRC Staff, and its needed approval is not affected by the withdrawal of relief request RG-3.
