Diablo Canyon Spent Fuel Storage Facility Dear Sirs; The community of Avila Beach is located-n the central coast of California and is the community located nearest to the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant.
Recently at a public meeting of the Avila Beach Community Services District, it was brought to the attention of the Board of Directors that public hearings on the storage of spent fuel are scheduled to be held in Sacramento, CA or Washington DC and not in San Luis Obispo County. Many residents of the community are concerned about the potential impacts of storing spent fuel in our county and of course will be unable to attend public hearings at such a distance outside of our area.
The District believes it to be imperative that the NRC consider scheduling public hearings in the community of Avila Beach to allow our residents the opportunity to learn more about the proposed project and to comment on the potential impacts. Additionally, public hearings should be scheduled in other communities within San Luis Obispo County to allow for greater understanding of the proposed project to members of the other communities that may be affected by the proposed project.
The potential impact of storing spent fuel in our County has many implications to all of San Luis Obispo County and in particular, Avila Beach.
