PUBLIC MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT
ST. LUCIE UNIT 1 NUCLEAR PLANT - DOCKET NO. 50-335
Dear Mr. Stall:
This letter confirms the telephone conversation between Mr. Terry Patterson of your staff and Mr. Steven Rudisail of the NRC staff on May 9, 2002, concerning a regulatory conference requested by you which has been scheduled for June 20, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. (EDT). The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the significance of the failure to have an installed fixed fire suppression system in an Alternative Shutdown Area (Unit One Cable Spreading Room). The finding associated with this issue is discussed in NRC Inspection Report No. 50-335/02-06.
Using the significance determination process, the NRC preliminarily determined the finding to be White, i.e., an issue with low to moderate safety significance for Unit 1 only. In addition, the meeting is to address the apparent violation associated with the inspection finding. The meeting will be held at the Two White Flint North (TWFN) Building Auditorium (P-2 level) at the NRC Headquarters Offices located at 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852.
This meeting is an open meeting per Staff Meetings Open to the Public; Final Policy Statement (59 FR 48340, September 20, 1994, as amended at 65 FR 56964, September 20, 2000). This meeting is designated as a Category 1 meeting in accordance with Commission Policy. As such, meetings in this category are typically held with one licensee to discuss particular regulatory issues regarding their specific facility. At this type of meeting, the NRC anticipates that the public would obtain factual information to assist in their understanding of the applicable regulatory issues and NRC actions.
Remote public observation of this meeting will be allowed from the Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center, 61 Forsyth Street, SW, Atlanta, GA 30303, room 24T20 on the 24th floor. However, seating may be limited and will be assigned on a first-come basis. Interested members of the public should contact the meeting coordinators Mr. Brendan Moroney at (301) 415-3974 or Mr. Son Ninh at (404) 562-4532 indicating their intention to attend by June 17, 2002. This will ensure that sufficient copies of meeting materials are available. Some portions of the meeting may be closed to public observation. Because meetings are sometimes canceled as a result of unforseen circumstances, members of the public should contact a coordinator at the number shown above to confirm that this meeting will occur as scheduled.
