SUMMARY

OF MAY 2, 2002, MEETING REGARDING ST. LUCIE UNIT 2 STEAM GENERATOR OPERATIONAL ASSESSMENT (TAC NO. MB3451)

On May 2, 2002, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff met with Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) representatives at NRC Headquarters in Rockville, Maryland. The objective of the meeting was to discuss the operational assessment based on the inspection of the St. Lucie Unit 2 steam generator tubes in the fall 2001 refueling outage. The NRC staff requested the meeting, which was open to the public as stated in the meeting notice dated April 12, 2002. Enclosure 1 is a list of attendees and Enclosure 2 is a copy of FPL viewgraphs presented during the meeting.

The licensees representatives provided a detailed description of the analytical method used to make the assessment. Their conclusion is that the operational assessment provides strong assurance of safe operation through the end of the current cycle.

The NRC staff indicated that the meeting was beneficial in gaining an understanding of the inspection scope and the methodology used in the operational assessment.
