ASSESSMENT FOLLOW-UP LETTER - D. C. COOK NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
Dear Mr. Bakken:
On May 6, 2002, the NRC staff forwarded a letter concerning the final significance determination of a White inspection finding in the mitigating systems cornerstone. The finding involved your staffs failure to take corrective actions to preclude a repetitive failure of the Unit 2 Turbine Driven Auxiliary Feedwater Pump, a significant condition adverse to quality.
As a result, we have assessed D. C. Cook performance to be in the Regulatory Response column of the NRCs Action Matrix. Therefore, we plan to conduct Supplemental Inspection Procedure 95001 during the week of June 17, 2002. This inspection procedure is conducted to provide assurance that the root causes and contributing causes of risk significant performance issues are understood, the extent of condition is identified, and the corrective actions are sufficient to prevent recurrence.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRCs Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter will be made available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's document system (ADAMS).
