Dear Chairman Meserve:
I have enclosed petitions primarily from residents of my Assembly District calling for increased protection of the spent fuel rods at Indian Point. Within a short period of time, there were 1211 residents who have signed these petitions.
The concern that has been expressed by the public regarding the safety at Indian Point over the past few months has not subsided. In fact, the willingness of the residents living around the nuclear plants in Buchanan, New York to sign these petitions demonstrates the need to make the plants as safe as possible and to require all measures that will insure the safety of the public. I, along with 1211 other residents, believe that the steel-roofed spent fuel rod facility at Indian Point should be stronger and reinforced for the public's protection and safety in these uncertain times. There must be no compromise on safety.
We are asking that you require Entergy Nuclear Northeast, the owner of Indian Point, to start the process of strengthening the storage facility of the spent fuel rods immediately.
I look forward to an affirmative response to our request.
