The purpose of this letter is to provide clarification of the ISI Code of record for Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES).
In a letter dated January 2, 2002, PPL requested authorization to use Code Case N-516-2 at the Susquehanna SES Units [Reference 1]. Within the letter, PPL identified that the 1992 Edition of ASME Section XI, IWA-4000, with the 1992 Addenda provides the requirements for performing repairs and replacements. The NRC approved use of Code Case N-516-2 at SSES in a Safety Evaluation Report (SER) dated February 21, 2002
[Reference 2]. Sections 1.0 and 2.1 of the SER state that the 1992 Edition of the ASME Code with the 1992 Addenda is the ISI Code of record for Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, Units 1 and 2.
APR 29 2002 Document Control Desk PLA-5450 PPL's request did not intend to imply that the Code of record for all Code components is the 1992 Edition with the 1992 Addenda as is stated in the SER. For Class 1, 2 and 3 components, the 1989 Edition of the ASME Code is the Code of record. For Class MC and CC components, the 1992 Edition with the 1992 Addenda is the Code of record.
