SUBJECT:
ISSUES RAISED BY THE U.S. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF LICENSE RENEWAL FOR NORTH ANNA POWER STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2
Dear Mr. Christian:
In an October 26, 2001, letter from Mr. John P. Wolflin of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), FWS provided comments related to the scope of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staffs review of the license renewal application for North Anna Power Station, Units 1 and 2. The NRC staff responded to these comments in a letter dated March 14, 2002. In its response, the staff explained that some of the comments, in particular the comments related to the construction and operation of the North Anna Dam and the associated hydroelectric plant, are outside the scope of the license renewal environmental review. Because your company owns and operates the dam and the hydroelectric plant, I wanted to be sure that you were aware of the comments from FWS. Copies of the letter from FWS and the NRC response are enclosed.
Sincerely, Original Signed By: AJKugler Andrew J. Kugler, Senior Project Manager Environmental Section License Renewal and Environmental Impacts Program Division of Regulatory Improvement Programs Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.
Docket Nos. 50-338 and 50-339
